Plugin suite

Payments in Moodle, without a middle layer.

Moodle has supported payments since version 4.0 through its own gateway system. We built the plugins that handle the practical side on top: paid enrolment, paid access to an activity, and Dutch payment providers core does not ship.

What you use this for

  • You want to sell courses without bolting a webshop onto Moodle.
  • Only a specific activity or exam should be paid, not the whole course.
  • You need iDEAL, or a provider Moodle does not support out of the box.
  • You want to offer discount codes on a paid enrolment.

Good to know

  • Gateway Payments builds on the payment system in Moodle core and therefore requires Moodle 4.0 or later.
  • Starting fresh? Choose Gateway Payments. ClassicPay exists for environments already running it.
  • We do not process payments and are not a payment service provider: the contract and the money run directly between you and Mollie or PAY.

Frequently asked questions

Which payment methods are supported?

That is determined by your payment provider, not the plugin. Mollie offers iDEAL, credit card and Bancontact among others; whatever you enable in your Mollie account shows up in Moodle.

Can we offer discount codes?

Yes, the enrolment plugin has built-in discount coupons with a start and end date, a percentage and optionally a maximum number of uses.

Can you add another payment provider?

Yes. Since Moodle 4.0 a payment gateway is its own plugin type, so adding a provider is a well-scoped piece of work. We have done it for Mollie and PAY.

Need this to do something it does not do yet?

The plugins are open source and free to use. If you need a change, a migration or someone to keep them working across Moodle upgrades, that is what we do.
