Hosting that understands Moodle.
Moodle is not a generic website. Cron jobs, sessions, caching layers, plugins, concurrent users and backup requirements all need specific technical attention. A general web host that adds Moodle as a pricier package is not automatically a specialist. We have run our own platform, fully optimised for Moodle, since 2003. Backups are easy to promise and hard to verify. So here is how ours are set up, in enough detail to hold against what anyone else writes down.
Two systems, independent of each other
- A snapshot of the whole environment, every day
- Separate file and database backups alongside them, also daily
- If one system fails, your data is still in the other
How far back you can go
- Daily restore points for the past 60 days
- Weekly ones going back around 20 weeks
- Monthly ones for the past 12 months
- Yearly ones going back 3 years
Where it lives
- On a location separate from the servers themselves
- Plus a copy in another EU country, with a different provider on a different network
- Encrypted in transit and on the storage itself; the backup location does not hold the keys
Tested, not just configured
- We run restore tests with clients who have an ISO 27001 obligation of their own
- In practice that works out at once a quarter, with a floor of twice a year
- If your environment runs with us and you want such a test, we schedule one
This describes how things are set up, not what we commit to contractually. That is what the SLA is for. If you need more in it, for an audit or a tender, tell us and we will talk it through.
Hosting pricing.
Honest annual rates based on the number of active users. We host on our own Moodle platform, which keeps us competitive against the market. The prices shown are all-in: the annual managed major upgrade is included.

All prices are per year and all-in: hosting including the annual managed major upgrade, based on active users, excluding VAT. Custom work, consultancy and setup help are billed by the hour.
A managed major upgrade every year, on a dedicated test environment
Moodle ships a new major version roughly every six months, with an LTS release about once every two years. Stay on an old version and you miss security fixes, new features and plugin compatibility. The longer you wait, the more expensive and risky the catch-up becomes. That is why every price includes at least one managed major upgrade per year, for example from one LTS to the next. We handle it safely: first we put a copy of your Moodle on a separate test environment and run the upgrade there. We test plugins and functionality thoroughly and only go live once everything works. Your production environment keeps running throughout.

During an upgrade we test and adapt any custom work and themes; we estimate the hours with you in advance, so you are never caught off guard.
